Alfred C. Silvidi, 83, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2025. Al was born in Steubenville, OH, to Sam and Mary Rose Silvidi (Fuoco) in 1942. He resided in Brimfield, OH, for the past 25 years with his wife Sandy. He graduated from Central Catholic High School, Steubenville, in 1960.
Al was a 1964 graduate of Kent State with both a Bachelor of Science and a Master's Degree in Speech Pathology, and Audiology. He belonged to Delta Tau Delta and Sigma Alpha Eta Fraternities, the Scabbard and Blade, and Pershing Rifles honoraries. His participation in Pershing Rifles and the Army ROTC program won him the Distinguished Military Student Award. Additionally, he was selected as 1 of 20 outstanding graduates of the class of 1964 at Kent State. Al was awarded a graduate fellowship in teaching and research from Kent State in 1967. He was a Special Education teacher in the Hudson Local School District in 1968 - 1970. He also served as a County Supervisor in Speech Pathology, and Audiology for Summit County Schools 1973 - 1974.
In 1976, he served as a Major and Executive Officer of the SECII, 2291st U.S. Army Hospital. He also was a member of the Association of the U.S. Army and of the Reserve Officers' Association. Additionally, he served as a past President and Vice President of the Summit County School of Speech and Hearing Association.
Al loved to work. He would retire from one job, find another job--work until fulfilling requirements for retirement, and would move on to yet another position. In all, he had officially retired from three positions. With great pride, he retired from the U.S. Army in 1992 as Lt. Colonel. He also retired from Buckeye Telesystem, Inc. as Senior Manager/Director of External Relations & Contract Management, also retiring from Alltel Corporation as Vice President - Staff Operations.
Al loved watching sports--in particular his beloved Notre Dame football team, as well as the Cleveland Cavaliers with his wife Sandy. In his youth, he was extremely athletic--excelling in baseball. In 1956, he tried out as pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates--surviving three cuts. At that time, they told Al he would be better suited for the Minors--but what an exciting experience!
Al was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Mary Rose Silvidi; brother Sam; brother-in-law Stephen Begunich; and father and mother-in-law Frank and Mary Begunich.
