Allen Jay Rutledge

April 30, 1962 — February 10, 2024



Allen Jay Rutledge, 61, went into the presence of Jesus peacefully on Saturday, February 10, 2024, after a prolonged illness and hospice stay.

He was born on April 30, 1962, the son of the late Wayne and Bonnie Rutledge, and was a lifelong resident of the Ellet area of Akron. He was a Class of 1980 graduate of Ellet High School and served the country in the U.S. Navy.

Big Al from Ellet” was a loving father, son, brother, and uncle and will be deeply missed and his passing leaves a huge void in the lives of those who loved him. He was blessed with a deep caring heart for his cats and animals of every kind and enjoyed fishing, golfing, and music, especially Journey, his favorite band. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed following the Buckeyes, Browns, and Indians.

Preceded in death by his parents Wayne and Bonnie Rutledge, sister-in-law Michelle Rutledge (Sawyer), uncles Terry Rutledge, Larry (Sue) Rutledge and Larry Fordham. He is survived by brother Mark Rutledge and sister Michelle (Frank) Miller, son Allen J. Preston (Alexis) Rutledge and daughter Alexandra (Kyle) McLean of Akron, grandchildren Ellie Marie and Nova Grace McLean, nieces Candace (Brent) Headley, Mallory (Alex) Woodward, Natalie (Jacob) Buice, and Brooklyn Walker, uncles Carl Fordham, Marlin (Becky) Fordham, and aunts Bonnie Fordham (Joe), Becky (Marlin) Fordham, Cil Rutledge and Vicki Young, and many cousins and friends.

The family would like to thank John McCoy, Geoff McClendon, Bonnie Fordham, Tina Jackson, Terry and Kim Rutledge, Malcom Cervenka, Lori Benedum and the gracious nurses from Gentiva for the kindness shown during Allen’s stay at the hospice facility.

There will be no visitation or funeral. Private services will be at the convenience of the family later.
