Annette Boykins, age 76, of Akron, Ohio, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2026.
Annette was born on July 31, 1949, in Cleveland, Ohio, and was raised in Akron, Ohio. She attended Hower Tech High School, where she graduated in 1967. Shortly after graduation, she began her career with the United States Postal Service, where she faithfully served for many years until her retirement.
After retiring, she continued serving others by working for several years as a receptionist at a podiatry office, where she warmly welcomed and supported countless patients and clients.
A woman of strong faith, Annette was a devoted member of The House of the Lord, where she regularly attended church services and found joy in worship and fellowship.
Annette was preceded in death by her beloved children, Michael James Boykins (July 30, 1976 – July 31, 1976) and Angela M. Boykins (December 12, 1978 – January 12, 1992); her sisters, Rita Hall (August 25, 1950 – November 13, 2020) and Sandra Johnson (August 30, 1953 – January 31, 2023); and her parents, Fletcher Sweeney (dates unknown) and Lula Mae Gurley (April 29, 1920 – March 19, 2015).
She leaves to cherish her memory her last surviving sibling, her sister Loretta Howard; three nephews, Christopher Hall, Ernie Hall, and Aaron Howard; two nieces, Danielle Johnson and Deneese Johnson; her goddaughter, DaVonne Joy Miller; and a host of extended family members and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Annette will be remembered as an avid reader, a lover of music, and a woman of quiet strength, unwavering faith, and a steadfast dedication to helping others in times of need. She had a special way of making others feel seen and heard, offering her presence, compassion, and support to those around her. As the eldest daughter, she blazed a path for her sisters and carried many responsibilities while helping to care for and support her mother. Her warmth, selflessness, and devotion to her family touched the lives of all who knew and loved her.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Her ashes will be scattered during a private family memorial service at a later date.
