Carla Starr Fitting, age 59, passed away peacefully at home on May 20, 2026. She was born on December 21, 1966, in Akron, Ohio.
Carla was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend whose life centered around her faith and her family. She shared a loving marriage with her husband, Tom, and dedicated much of her life to caring for those she loved most. Before, during, and after attending college, Carla devoted herself to being a stay-at-home mother, something she took great pride in. Her nurturing spirit and love for children also led her to work as a preschool teacher, where she touched the lives of many families.
She graduated from Springfield High School and later earned two Associate degrees from Kent State University. Carla was an active member of Springfield Assembly of God near Lakemore, where her strong faith and deep love for Jesus were evident to everyone who knew her. She found great comfort in Christian music, worship, and fellowship with her church family.
Carla especially loved spending time with her family. Holidays brought her so much joy, and she cherished every opportunity to gather together with those she loved. She also enjoyed traveling, with Disney trips holding a special place in her heart. Her warmth, kindness, and caring nature made her an incredible mother and grandmother, and her love extended not only to her family, but also to her beloved animals.
She is survived by her loving and caring husband, Tom; her children, Christina(Roger), David, and Matthew; her stepdaughter, Mackenzie; her grandchildren, Scarlett, Issac, and Jamie; her mother, Carolyn Faye Cassell; her sister, Sue(Ted); her brother, Carl(Diane); and her longtime best friend, Sheri.
She was preceded in death by her father, Darius Cassell.
Carla will be remembered for her loving heart, unwavering faith, and the deep care she showed to everyone around her. Her presence brought comfort, joy, and strength to her family and friends, and her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
