Cheryl Smith

Cheryl Lee Smith, 65, of Akron, died peacefully in her sleep in the early morning of September 17, 2026. She was born November 7, 1960 to Paul & Florence DiGisi, in Fort Lauderdale Florida where she grew up with her three sisters and attended St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic school. She spent the majority of her life in Tallahassee, Florida before moving to Ohio in 2022. She held a career early in life as a court clerk amongst other jobs before battling several medical ailments.

Those who knew Cheryl well knew her idol was Cher. She had attended many concerts and even cherished her Cher Barbie dolls and memorabilia. She even wore her hair, make up and long nails similar to her idol. When Cheryl wasn’t blasting Cher music, or any rock and roll for that matter, you could always find her cleaning her home, making lasagna or laying out by the beach at St. George Island. Above all else, she loved her daughter, her family and her faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Sipos and her parents, Paul DiGisi and Florence Schwartz. She is survived by her daughter, Casey Barker and her husband, Kasey Barker and granddaughter, Allison Barker. She is survived by her step daughter, Elizabeth Rollyson and her husband Johnny Ray Rollyson. She is survived by Casey’s childhood best friend and “adoptive daughter” Erika Alaisa. She is survived by her sisters, Debra Abbate, Paula Gorman-Pasqual and Judith DiGisi and their families.

There will be a private viewing held Friday, September 18th at 12 pm. There will also be a small private memorial service held at the beach, at a later date, to celebrate her life.
