Cynthia Hughes

Cynthia Imogene Hughes "Kanaya", 74, passed away February 9, 2025.  Kanaya was born February 18, 1950 in Fort Totten, North Dakota, and was one of 12 children.  She was a member of the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate Sioux Tribe.  Kanaya will always be remembered as a kind and caring person.  She was smart and loved to solve puzzles.  Leading up to her passing she was never afraid.  She was a person of faith and it gave her comfort.  Kanaya is survived by her longtime companion of 33 years Robert Mace; her children William Johnston, Megan Johnston, Laura Sisson, and Amy Gifford; sister Phylomena (Douglas) Black; friends Fran, Amber, and Bobby Anger; as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren.   Visitation will be 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon, Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at the Adams Mason Funeral Home (791 East Market Street), where funeral services will immediately follow at 12:00 Noon.  Pastor Dwayne Ray will officiate.  Private burial and she will be laid to rest at Hillside Memorial Park.  (Flash - Adams - Westerman).
