Cynthia Imogene Hughes "Kanaya", 74, passed away February 9, 2025. Kanaya was born February 18, 1950 in Fort Totten, North Dakota, and was one of 12 children. She was a member of the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate Sioux Tribe. Kanaya will always be remembered as a kind and caring person. She was smart and loved to solve puzzles. Leading up to her passing she was never afraid. She was a person of faith and it gave her comfort. Kanaya is survived by her longtime companion of 33 years Robert Mace; her children William Johnston, Megan Johnston, Laura Sisson, and Amy Gifford; sister Phylomena (Douglas) Black; friends Fran, Amber, and Bobby Anger; as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Visitation will be 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon, Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at the Adams Mason Funeral Home (791 East Market Street), where funeral services will immediately follow at 12:00 Noon. Pastor Dwayne Ray will officiate. Private burial and she will be laid to rest at Hillside Memorial Park. (Flash - Adams - Westerman). Arrangements entrusted to Adams Mason Funeral Home (330) 535-9186
