Dennis “Lamar” Hammond

June 7, 1995 – January 6, 2026

Dennis “Lamar” Hammond, a lifelong resident of Akron, Ohio, was born on June 7, 1995, and passed unexpectedly on January 6, 2026, after a long-term battle with diabetes. Though his life was far too short, the impact he made on those who knew and loved him will last forever.

Lamar was a proud graduate of East High School and remained deeply connected to the city and neighborhood that shaped him. Akron was home in every sense of the word, and you could often find him walking its streets, enjoying the outdoors, and finding peace in nature. He appreciated the simple things—fresh air, familiar places, good music, and the comfort of routines that brought him joy.

Above all else, Lamar was family. He was an awesome and devoted son to his mother, Cammie Hammond, who meant the world to him. Their bond was strong, rooted in love, loyalty, and care. As his older sister, Ivy Hammond, I had the privilege of knowing him not only as my brother, but as someone who was kind, protective, loving, and—yes—stubborn at times. That stubborn streak was part of who he was and often came from a place of caring deeply and standing firm in his love for others.Lamar was an incredible uncle to Richard Austin Jr. and Raiden Austin. He adored them and took pride in being present in their lives. Whether through quiet moments, shared laughter, or simply being there, he showed his love in ways that will always be remembered.

Those who knew Lamar knew his heart. What people loved most about him was how sincerely he cared. His concern for others was genuine, never forced, and always heartfelt. He showed up for people, offered help when and where he could, and gave his time freely to family and friends. He enjoyed gaming and music, but his greatest passion was spending time with the people he loved.

Lamar is the true definition of “you never know what you have until it’s gone.” His absence leaves a space that cannot be filled, but his memory will continue to live on through the love he gave and the lives he touched.

As his sister, I will carry him with me always. He will forever hold a special place in my heart. Lamar will be deeply missed, endlessly loved, and never forgotten.
