Ed “Fast Eddy” Royer passed away Monday June 29th at his residence in Tallmadge, Ohio. He was born in Akron to John and Ruth Royer. He was raised in Firestone Park where he attended St Paul’s grade school until 8th grade. He was a 1961 graduate of Archbishop Hoban High School. He attended the University of Akron before joining the Navy in 1962.
Ed married Rebecca “Becky” Smith on June 12th, 1965, while on deployment in the US Navy. They began their family in March of 1966; he mustered out of the Navy in September of 1966 and started a career with United Airlines in October 1966. His long career with United took the family to cities in the Midwest and South. Ed worked in Cleveland, Akron, Columbus, Chicago, Atlanta, Rocky River, and Chicago before retiring in 2002. He and Becky moved back to Tallmadge in 2005.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and John, his wife Becky and sister Jean. He is survived by his four children, Patrick J. Royer (Sophie) of Escondido Ca, Michael D. Ed had a wickedly dry sense of humor, he was funny, loved puns, limericks and the Cleveland Browns, which required his sense of humor for sure. He was a car enthusiast who knew many makes, models and years of cars, sometimes just by the shape of their rear lights or front ends. He attended many Chicago Auto Shows and spent many Father’s Days at Stan Hywett with Matthew enjoying the cars.
He was an AVID long-time Cleveland Browns fan and long-time member of the Brown’s Backers club in Schaumburg, IL. He was always looking forward to next year for his beloved Brownies. He spent many Sundays at the Browns backers with Michael and Bundle in Schaumburg. He leaves behind a host of family and friends that will cherish his wit and sense of humor.
