It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Eleanor Kane (née Wagner) on December 23, 2025. Eleanor was born December 2, 1942, in Akron, Ohio.
Eleanor was married for 55 years to her husband, Bob. Together, they raised their daughters, Kimberly (Brian) Nichols and Amy (Christopher) Kane-Toole. Nothing brought her greater joy than being “Grandma” to Luke and Abby Nichols and Emily Bezjak.
Eleanor is survived by her siblings Jim (Shelley) Wagner, Tom Wagner, David (Nan) Wagner, and Laurie (Ralph) Moye; sister-in-law Debbi Wagner; brother- and sister-in-law Kevin and Jill Kane; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Elsie Wagner; her brother Richard Wagner; and her sister-in-law Linda Wagner.
Eleanor was a graduate of the University of Akron and a proud member of Delta Gamma Sorority. She devoted 36 years to education, mostly as a beloved third-grade teacher in the Stow–Munroe Falls City School District, where she touched countless young lives with her patience, warmth, and passion for learning. She retired in 2005, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the classroom. Eleanor was especially proud of her involvement in innovative programs such as Schoolscape and Math Day in Ohio, always seeking new ways to make learning meaningful and fun for her students and bettering her community.
Outside the classroom, Eleanor was a loyal Cleveland Indians fan, loved playing cards with her longtime Euchre group, and treasured time spent with her grandchildren. She also held close a circle of dear friends known as “the Foxes,” including the DePompeis, Reinharts, Jonses, Rudds, Casanovas and Kellys, friendships that enriched her life for decades.
Eleanor will be remembered for her kindness, dedication, and unwavering love for her family, friends, students, and community. Her impact as a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, teacher, and friend will continue to be felt by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Family and friends are invited to an open house in celebration of Eleanor’s life on Saturday, Jan. 17 from 1-4 pm at The Center at 4157 Hudson Dr. in Stow. Please join us to share memories, stories, and time together in her honor.
