Frederick James Gravesmill, born June 23, 1933, in Akron, Ohio, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2026, at Altercare of Nobles Pond.
Fred lived a full and happy life shaped by hard work, quiet kindness, and a steadfast nature. He was the beloved son of Norma Ledford and Elmer Gravesmill, who preceded him in death, as did his brother Robert Gravesmill.
In 1961, Fred completed his service to our country, having received his discharge from the armed forces that year. That same year marked the beginning of a long and dedicated career as a professional truck driver. Over three decades, he drove for well-known companies including Safeway, Renner, and Ace, before retiring from Yellow Freight in 1991. He enjoyed his time on the open road.
Retirement did not slow Fred’s engagement with his community. He volunteered at Western Reserve Hospital, sharing his time and warmth with those around him. Whether greeting visitors, helping staff, or simply offering a friendly word.
Fred found simple joys throughout his life. He loved watching movies and television—particularly westerns—and could always be counted on to enjoy a bowl of popcorn, a handful of jelly beans, or anything chocolate. In his earlier years, he cherished traveling, with visits to his brother’s family in Texas and thoughtful vacations to the beach among his fondest memories.
For the last three and a half years, Fred was cared for by the compassionate teams at Noble Pond nursing facility and Absolute Hospice. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to these devoted caregivers for the comfort, dignity, and company they provided Fred.
As per his wishes, cremation has taken place. Burial will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. In accordance with his wishes, no formal services are planned.
Fred’s spirit of resilience, kindness, and dedication will be remembered by all who knew him.
Arrangements entrusted to Adams Mason Funeral Home, 330-535-9186.
