Gary A. Blythe passed away on April 23, 2026, at the age of 85. He was born on February 17, 1941, in Akron, Ohio, to his mother, Martha, and father, Eugene. He was raised in Lakemore and Ellet, and spent much of his childhood with his grandparents, Mavel and Russell Allen.
At a young age, Gary developed a love for animals. He enjoyed bowling, basketball, and playing marbles in his free time. At age 12, he traveled to Portland, Oregon, to compete in a marble championship—and won. He graduated from Ellet High School in 1959.
In 1961, Gary met his future wife, Linda C. Young, on a blind date. They were married on March 23, 1963, and shared 64 wonderful years together. During their marriage, they raised two children, Kevin and Kristi. As a family, they spent many summers at Dale Hollow Lake in Tennessee, boating and skiing. One memorable summer, they traveled across much of the United States, sightseeing at national parks and attractions.
Gary retired at age 55 from Goodyear, where he worked for 36 years as an electrician. He also had a passion for cars and spent much of his time rebuilding his 1964 Impala Super Sport, winning numerous “Best of Show” awards.
He was a wonderful Papa to Izaiah, Natalee, and Elyjah, whom he loved dearly. He took great joy in spoiling them and supporting them in everything they did.
Gary was preceded in death by his mother, Martha B. Matusky; father, Eugene R. Blythe; stepfather, Carl Matusky; and grandparents, Russell and Mavel Allen.
He is survived and will be dearly missed by his wife, Linda Blythe; step-sister, Dorothy (Matusky) Felber (John); son, Kevin Blythe; daughter, Kristi (Blythe) Clifford (Jeramya); grandchildren, Izaiah, Natalee, and Elyjah Clifford; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held at Adams Mason Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 5, at 11:30 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 12:30 p.m.
