Sergeant Major George L. Anger, Jr. USMC, Retired, 78, of Akron, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his home on July 29, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Akron, Ohio, June 30, 1947, preceded in death by Roy and Margaret Anger.

George graduated from East High School in 1965. George proudly answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the United States Marine Corps in 1966. His distinguished career spanned over 27 years, during which he served in Vietnam and a tour in Desert Shield/Desert Storm, demonstrating unwavering courage and leadership. He was a highly decorated Marine, received the Purple Heart during his tour in Vietnam. He served three years as a Drill Instructor in Parris Island and was the Assistant Marine Officer Instructor of the NROTC program at the University of Michigan. He retired from active duty after 27 honorable years of service and transitioned to his Alma Mater East High School as the Senior Marine instructor of JROTC from 1994-2012.

George is survived by his wife, Deborah Anger they were married for 52 years. His sister Nellie Jo Fine. His daughter Vangie Anger-Capocci (53), His Son in Law Christopher Capocci (55) his sons, Shane (48) and Jason Anger (46) He was very proud of his grandchildren Ashlyn (23), Aaron (23), and Adrianna (19) Capocci, many nieces and nephews and his best friend and fellow Marine John MacLean and his loyal companion Jazzy. Preceded in death by Saundra Larimore, Linda Crider, and Brenda Deichert.

George enjoyed spending his life inspiring others, from his family to his recruits, fellow Marines, and friends. George enjoyed riding his Harley, traveling to Key West, and watching NASCAR. He never gave up on the Cleveland Browns, loved his Indians, and most of all The Ohio State Buckeyes!
