Goldie Margaret Sites died on November 27, 2025 at age 98 after battling dementia for more than a decade.
Goldie was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on July 22, 1927. She was preceded in death by just three weeks by her son and devoted caregiver, Danny Sites. Goldie was also preceded in death by her parents (Paul and Goldie Faris), brother (Frank Faris), husband of 63 years (Paul Sites), and her daughter (Mary Jones). She is survived by her daughter, Katie Geldhof; grandchildren: Dante (Sarah) Geldhof; Heather (Dan) Geldon; Paul (Kate) Geldhof; Jenny Dillon; and Martin Geldhof, and her seven great grandchildren: Indiana and Tigerlily Geldhof; Ryan, Gabriella, and Sophie Dillon; and Zoe and Susanna Geldon.
Goldie graduated from Dunkirk High School in Dunkirk, Indiana, where she met her husband, Paul. She was a devoted wife and mother, as her family moved many times in Indiana and eventually to Ohio, while her husband worked as a preacher and professor. Once all three of her children were in college, Goldie enrolled at the University of Akron and graduated in 1976 with a degree in elementary education. She worked as a substitute teacher for four years before committing herself to volunteerism.
Some of her many roles in the community included: Girl Scout troop leader; book distributor for RIF (Reading is Fundamental); R.S.V.P. volunteer and board member, Northeast District President for the Ohio Federation of Women’s Clubs, President of the Auxiliary of Robinson Memorial Hospital, Co-President of University Women, and board member of the Kevin Coleman Foundation.
Goldie was drawn to volunteering not only because she was happiest while giving back, but also because she loved connecting with others. Always put together and well-dressed, Goldie loved to socialize and was a friend to many. She loved hosting festive get-togethers and holiday meals. She will be remembered by her family as a hardworking mother and grandmother with a quick wit, talent for music and art, and a gift for making her home particularly warm and welcoming.
