Helen Gandee

Helen Snipes, 97, of Akron, passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2026 at the Canton Christian Home.

Born on May 18, 1929, in Akron, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Mary Dolan.

Helen will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. Throughout her life, she enjoyed playing cards and board games with family, friends, and fellow residents at the Canton Christian Home. She will be fondly remembered for her love of the holidays and dressing for the festivities.

She is survived by two sons, Sherman H. (Anna Marie) Gandee Jr., Kevin (Valerie ) Gandee; daughter, Dawn Shaikh; seven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her three husbands, Sherman H. Gandee, Arthur Smith, and William Snipes; brother, William Dolan; and two sisters, Anna Lamonica, and Marie Karbowitz.

In accordance with her wishes, no formal services will be held at this time. Cremation has taken place and inurnment will take place in Greenlawn Cemetery in Akron at a later date.
