James W Gurley Jr.

I am writing to share the news of the passing of James Walter Gurley Jr. (Junney), 66, who went home to be with the Lord on August 26, 2026, at Western Reserve Hospice.

James was a proud military veteran. After he accepted Christ, he overcame a 30-year addiction, and dedicated his life to helping others as a peer support advocate and supporter of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). He touched many lives and always supported people through the process of recovery. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Sarah Gurley, and his sister, Karen Johnson. He leaves behind his daughter, Shakeena Gurley; his grandson, Deviair Blackwell; his sisters, Cheryl (William) Richardson, Gwendolyn (James) Shropshire , Christine Gurley, Vanzi (Chobert) Wright, and Vonzi Anderson of Chicago; and his brothers, Joseph Gurley and Wesley Black. 

A celebration of life will take place on Sunday September 13, 2026; 2pm - 6pm @ Adena Knolls Clubhouse, 4198 Shawnee Trail, Copley, Ohio 44321: off Heritage Woods Drive.
