Akron

Jaquell Simone Cox-Howard, 44, of Akron, Ohio, passed away on January 13, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on June 14, 1981, she was the daughter of Jacqueline Cox-Young and her bonus father, the late Leroy Young Sr., who raised her with devotion.

A proud product of Akron Public Schools, Jaquell was a woman of many talents and a vibrant spirit. She was an exceptional cook and found great joy in her garden, where she spent many peaceful hours listening to jazz. Her love for life took her to many sandy beaches and new destinations. A dedicated NBA fan, she split her loyalty between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics. Jaquell also possessed a creative eye for decorating and hair styling, and she poured her heart into being a wonderful "dog mom" to her beloved fur baby, Stella Howard.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Lee and Elma Cox; bonus father, Leroy Young Sr.; bonus mother, Harriet McCraney; grandfather-in-law, Albert "Pops" Howard Sr.; bonus siblings, Leroy Young Jr. and Denise Holley; uncles, Clarence Cox and Tony Hood; and cousins, Gerald Hargrove, Sierra Senter, and Billy Winkler.

Jaquell leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, Brandon Howard; her mother, Jacqueline Cox-Young; her brother, Terrance Parker Sr.; and her sisters, Brittany Young and bonus sister Venus Young. She was the adoring aunt to her nephews, Charles "ChuChu" Graham and Terrance "Monkey" Parker Jr., who were the absolute apple of her eye, as well as her nieces, Kayvin Tyler, Dontaysha Gibson, and Shontaysha Gibson.

She also leaves her uncle, Lee Cox Jr. (Jane); aunts, Doris Hargrove, Martha Blackwell, and Janice Cox-Jackson; bonus aunt, Diane Davis; special cousin, Marcia Miles (Gerald) of Las Vegas; godparents, Hermage and Mary McNeil; and her best friend, Tiffany Wilder-Hatcher, along with a host of other relatives and dear friends.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Eric Espinal, Dr. Michael Nguyen, and the nurses and staff of the Summa Akron City ICU for the exceptional care and compassion shown to Jaquell. May God bless each of you.  Anyone that would want to send flowers for the family's private funeral may do so by sending them to Adams Mason Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 20th by 4:00 PM.  Arrangements entrusted to Adams Mason Funeral Home (330) 535-9186
