Jean A. Slusser

Jean A. Slusser, 99, of Akron, passed away on Monday, October 5, 2026, at Brookdale Montrose Memory Care in Akron, surrounded by family.

A daughter of the late Richard and Estella (Wilson) Wagner, she was born on January 13, 1927, in Akron. Jean lived in Denver, CO, Pittsburgh, PA, and Venice, FL before returning to Ohio.

Jean loved being around people. She loved to compliment people on everything from their hair to their shoes. Her wardrobe showed her style with matching earrings, of course. She would laugh and let you know she was a "cougar!" Jean volunteered at the Venice Theater and Venice Friendship Center in Venice, Florida each for over 15 years. She had jobs as a bookkeeper, real estate agent, and worked in retail as well. Jean was an excellent seamstress, and enjoyed golf, walking, playing card games, listening to music, and ballroom dancing. In her later years, she loved to go out for lunch and a drive with her best friend, Anne, and marvel at the beauty of trees, especially in the fall.

She is survived by her daughter, Pam (Slusser) Pirogowicz, son, Richard (Sonya) Slusser, and grandchildren Alyse Myers and Justin (Jess) Myers, Ricky and Jacquilin Slusser; multiple generations of nieces and nephews, and her close friend, Anne Griffith.

Along with her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband Jack, siblings, Ruth(Ed)Gray, Richard (Dick/Isabelle), and Raymond, her favorite pilot and co-conspirator, Rick Briggs, and close friend for 90 years, Lois (Pinky) Miller.

In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be a private service for family. Jean's family would like to recognize Gentiva Hospice and especially Hayley for their kindness and support.
