Jerome R France Jr., 79, of Akron, passed away peacefully at home, with his loved ones by his side, after a courageous battle with cancer, on February 24, 2026.
He was born on November 24, 1946, in Akron Ohio to the late Jerome and Loretta (DeMars) France Sr.
Jerry was a man who found joy in life’s simple and meaningful pleasures. He loved the freedom of the open road on his motorcycle, the quiet patience of fishing, and the loyal companionship of animals. He was also a devoted fan of the Pittsburg Steelers and rarely missed a chance to watch them play football. Game days were a time to cheer, analyze plays and enjoy being around his buddies.
He was incredibly gifted with his hands and could fix anything, anywhere, anytime – truly from A to Z. If something was broken, everyone knew to call Jerry. Strong, capable and deeply loved, he was the kind of man others depended on.
Beyond his skill, he was witty and quick-minded, always ready with a sharp remark or clever response that could lighten any moment. He also enjoyed life’s simple indulgences – a good steak and crab legs for dinner paired with a cold Budweiser – surrounded by laughter and good conversation.
Jerry is survived by his devoted wife, Tammie; his children Roxanna (Mack), Dustin (Sara) Amber (Adam), his step children, Ashley (Brian), Karessa, Alanna, Amy, Christy, Bob; and his cherished grandchildren, Kayla, Bradley, Gavin, Blake, Kolton, Riley, Aurora, Brayden, Kayson, Ryker, Kaysen, Mason and Kylie who lovingly knew him as “Papaw France”. Jerry is also survived by his siblings, Roland (Deb) France and Brenda (Duane) Pavlic, and in laws Roy Osborn, Sue DeVos and his long-time best friends, Jason Cooper and Katie Spears. He also had many other friends he always considered family. In addition to his family, Jerry leaves behind his two wonderful dogs, Kota and Mato, who were constant companions and brought him immense joy.
As “Papaw France” he created wonderful memories filled with laughter, lessons, and unwavering support. His life was marked by devotion, resilience, and a deep love for his family.
He passed as he lived – surrounded by love – and deeply missed by all who knew him.
In accordance with his wishes, a Celebration of Life to honor Jerry's memory will be held at a later date.
