Judith Frances Hodge nee Schwartz passed on January 9, 2026 at Maplewood Assisted Living, following a recent decline in health. She was born in Elizabeth City, Virginia, to Simon and Ida May Schwartz, the oldest of three sisters. Growing up in the south, primarily in Texas, she had a love of history and was an avid reader, as well as cultivating a talented hand in the visual arts and at playing the piano. Her educational background was diverse, with time spent in a program studying chemistry at Cornell before going to Stanford, where she graduated with a bachelor's degree in History. Following her years at Stanford, she moved to Philadelphia where she met Edward B. Hodge Jr (Ted), to whom she was wed. They shared a love of hikes in the mountains, tennis, and playing cards, especially Bridge. They had two children, Ned and Will, and remained married until Ted's death in 1994.
Judy was very active in her community, working with many noble causes. She worked tirelessly with the Hopewell Environmental Commission and Friends of Hopewell Valley Open Space to prevent a landfill from being built on Kuser Mountain, and to prevent a sub-station from being built in a residential area. She was also active with, and served time as chairperson, for the PTA of the Chapin School of Princeton, as well as being a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. In her later life, being an ardent lover of animals, she raised and showed numerous award winning Kerry Blue Terriers, the dog breed she'd had almost continuously since childhood, some going on to achieve Grand Champion.
Judy is survived by her two sisters, Alice and Claire, her two children Ned (Nicole) Hodge and Will (Rachelle) Hodge, and her four grandchildren, Ted, Nora, Maggie, and Calvin, all of whom lovingly knew her as "Oma."
A service in celebration of her life will be held at noon February 21st at Victory Life Church, 3383 Hudson Dr, Stow, OH, 44224, which will also be streamed live on Facebook, those who are interested in the livestream may contact Ned or Will.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to either the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, or to Friends of Hopewell Valley Open Space.
Arrangements entrusted to Adams Mason Funeral Home 330-535-9186.
