Laida N. Hernandez Sanabria, 83, of Copley, OH, passed away on March 2, 2026. She was born on November 9, 1942, in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. Her parents were Efraín Hernández and Afortunada Sanabria.
Our dear mother (to Noraida, Roberto, and Isaida), grandmother, “Tatita” (to Joannely, Edeline, Yadiel, Diego, Lyan, Alex Joel, Alody, Alanys, and Aldrian), great-grandmother (to Jace and Ellie), sister and sister-in-law (to Genil and Mario), mother-in-law (to Edwin, Ivette, and Franko), aunt (to Gerardo, Javier, and Edgardo), and dear friend and confidant to many, will be remembered lovingly and cherished forever in our hearts!
We will always remember her with joy because she continually made us laugh (often very hard!) with her sayings, her stories, her lively, very outspoken and authentic personality. With her life she also exemplified to us and showed us to remain strong and courageous, persevere through challenges, and to overcome all trials that life may bring. With the help and grace of her God and Savior, Jesus Christ, whom she knew, she experienced many blessings, even miracles, in her life. God also used her throughout her life to be a blessing to many. She loved to host parties and celebrations, and to cook for and feed anyone that would come to her door. Her home was an “open house”. With genuine compassion and welcoming hospitality, she opened and shared her home over the years with loved ones in need. She chose to study and work as a social worker (Department of Justice of Puerto Rico), because it was her heart to talk to and listen to people’s problems to counsel and help them, and she was characterized by that her whole life. She developed a strong spirit and was an independent woman until the very last day of her life on this earth. What an example she left us!
Our dear Laida’s favorite place ever was the beach, the ocean, and she would always dream of and cherish her precious Puerto Rico, as well as her Puerto Rican food. She had a love for writing- her memories, her thoughts, Bible verses, books she read, romantic poems, cards, all sorts of lists…She loved buying and having stationery materials. She left us with many written memories of her. On another lighter note, she also owned quite of few dogs over the years, and she loved her “Vicks” (oh yes!) and her “alcoholado”.
Laida, our mom, our Tatita, our sister and sister-in-law, our mother-in law, our aunt, and our dear faithful friend, will always live in us! She was unique. She was…Laida!
We thank You and praise You, the Almighty God, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for giving us your precious daughter, Laida! Thank You for showing her Your steadfast love and faithfulness, for how You cared for and guided her throughout her life until her very last breath. Each one of us has been deeply touched and blessed by her in a special way. Thank You for the eternal life and unspeakable joy that she is enjoying with You now! In Jesus name, Amen!
