Lucille E. Jones

Lucille Jones-Sommerville, known as “Momma Sue,” passed away on May 1, 2026, in Akron, Ohio, at the age of 86. She was born on September 24, 1939, to her late parents, Lester Jones and Georgia Bird.

With Momma Sue’s passing, we mourn a loss that leaves a space in our hearts that can never truly be filled. At the same time, we celebrate a life rooted in strength, sacrifice, unconditional love, and resilience. Through her actions and the way she cared for others, Momma Sue showed her family what courage, compassion, and devotion truly looked like.

She was never afraid to stand firm in who she was or in the people she loved. Her life was a reflection of perseverance, kindness, and unwavering love, and we are a living testimony to that love.

Lucille was preceded by her sisters, Wendy and Ann, and by her late husband, Charles Sommerville.

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Veronica “Blondie” Sommerville-Wells, Teresa Jones, and Brenda Brogden.

She also leaves behind her precious grandchildren: Terrance Jones, Tia Banks, Willie “Spank” Harris Jr., the late Justus “Big Jus” Sommerville, Victoria Sommerville, Brianna Brogden, and Brittany Brogden; along with special bonus daughters Mary and Mia, and bonus sons Chucky, Jerry, and Tony, all of whom she loved dearly.

Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: Naudia, Nasieur, Priya, Kadence, Erimes, Jaqualeh, Justus Jr., Jaylin, Ny’Elle, Jamia, Janya, Tiger , Oliva, and Autumn; and her great-great-grandchildren, Drace and Osaze, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends whose lives were touched by her love.

Lucille dedicated many years of service to her work. She was employed at the Akron Tower Motor Inn for 15 years before continuing her career at Akron City Hospital (now Summa Health) for 25 years, where she worked her way up to become head pharmacist. She took pride in her work and in providing for those she loved.

Momma Sue will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her strength, honesty, laughter, and love. Her spirit will continue to live on in the family she nurtured, the lives she shaped, and the memories we will carry in our hearts forever

Visitation will be 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Monday, May 11, 2026 at the Adams Mason Funeral Home (791 East Market Street), where funeral services will immediately follow at 1:00 PM. Deacon Dawn Brooks will officiate. 

The Repass will be held after the service at 2062 Romig Rd. Akron, Ohio 44320
