Mary Louise Ellsworth, 87, passed away on August 23, 2025 at Story Point in Avon Lake, Ohio.
Mary was born in 1938 in St. Louis, MO. The family moved to Lakewood, OH in 1942. She was the fifth of 12 children, and had an active role in caring for the five younger siblings throughout her high school years, to the point of dropping out of high school for one year to help her mother care for them. She became the role model, mentor and life-time friend to the four younger girls. During her working years she enjoyed taking her sisters to many events, and taught them how to shop - especially at Christmas! Mary’s heart was as generous as her spirit. After high school she worked as an assistant to the owner of an art, advertising and photography studio, eventually becoming his invaluable assistant. She had a great ability for administration, color, and design that enabled the business to grow. She met the love of her life, Lee Ellsworth, on a blind date. Through a Bible Study, they started attending, and became actively involved in, Stow Alliance Fellowship in Stow, OH, teaching Sunday School, leading the College and Career Ministry, and always being available to anyone who needed assistance or support at any time of the day or night. They were deeply loved and highly respected by all. The friendships developed through the youth groups many years ago, have extended to the present day. Mary and Lee were inseparable, enjoying travel to Lee’s family in California, downhill and cross-country skiing, biking, and running. They loved and lived life together each and every day! Mary took a keen interest in the lives of not only her siblings, but the many nieces and nephews of both families. They visited many of them, and were regular attendees at many of their sporting events. One of Mary’s many ways of expressing her love to friends and family was by sending cards. She never missed a birthday, anniversary, or any special occasion. She had a treasure trove of cards always on hand, and she was very particular about sending ‘just the right card.’ Her faith and family were of ultimate importance her entire life. She was a cherished and deeply loved sister and friend. She will be sorely missed by all.
Mary was preceded in death by: Lee (husband), and siblings Tony, Betty, Ann, and Hank.
Mary is survived by her siblings: Cecilia, Ted (Lucy), Carl (Eileen), Rosemarie, Jeanne, Joanne (Doug) and Patricia, along with many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews who will carry on her legacy of kindness and faith.
