Mary Angela Fitzpatrick, affectionately known as Mamie, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2025 at the age of 73. She was the first daughter of Angela and Raymond Fitzpatrick and is survived by her brother Brian Fitzpatrick (Maureen), sisters Janice Newland (Mark) and Kate Baker (Kevin) in addition to nieces and nephews Bridget Shoemaker (Ken), Molly Shaheen (Nick), Kelly Corrigan (Patrick), Edward Newland (Hilary), Brendan Newland (Brooke), Patrick Baker, and Laura Nagelhout (Ryan). She is also survived by many dear cousins and friends throughout the country.
Mary leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and kindness that will be treasured by all who knew her. She was born on November 30, 1951, in Norwood, MA for her first couple of years before eventually moving to Timberlake, OH and later Solon, OH for her formative years. Mary was the second of four children and grew up surrounded by the warmth of family and the values that shaped her generous and spirited nature.
Mary graduated from Ohio University in 1974. Afterwards, in her early twenties, she left Ohio and embarked on a life rich in experiences and friendships, living first in Boston, Massachusetts, and later spending over two decades in San Francisco and Oakland, California. Throughout her journey, she cultivated deep and lasting relationships, touching lives from coast to coast with her compassion, wit, and unwavering loyalty. Upon her retirement in California, Mary moved back to Ohio and had been living in Hudson, OH.
Though she never married, Mary was a devoted and much-loved aunt to seven nieces and nephews and a cherished great-aunt to thirteen great-nieces and nephews. Her presence at family gatherings, her thoughtful gifts, her willingness to spend engaging time with her loved ones, and her boundless support made her an irreplaceable figure in the lives of the next generations.
Mary’s life was filled with a deep appreciation for music, which brought her joy and connection throughout the years. She was always proud for having seen two Beatles concerts and countless other bands. She also held strong convictions and was never afraid to express her opinions, particularly on matters of social and political importance to support democracy in the United States. Above all, she will be remembered for her wholehearted dedication to being a sister, an aunt, a cousin and a true friend — roles she embraced with immense love and authenticity.
Mary will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege to share in her life. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or your local Hospice organization, Ronald McDonald House or any organization promoting the well-being of children.
