Michael John Peter Capozzi, born May 18, 1951, passed away peacefully at home on May 15, 2025, surrounded by love, music, and family. A true Akronite, born and raised in North Hill, Michael carried the grit, charm, and heart of his hometown everywhere he went. He was a man of many gifts—a generous soul with a carefree spirit, a heart that loved deeply and fully, and a mischievous grin never to be forgotten.
Michael spent his life in service to others. He bravely served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, answering the call of duty with courage and conviction. After returning home, he continued to dedicate himself to care and compassion—first as a respiratory therapist, then as a medical equipment salesman, and finally, even after retirement, as a house manager for the Blick Clinic, helping adults with developmental disabilities live with support and dignity.
His passion for life showed in his love of music, his sharp wit, and his unwavering devotion to his family - the light of his world. He gave of himself freely—his time, his effort, his loyalty. A true original, he was a cinephile, audiophile, photographer, and master gardener. His connection to the Earth was rivaled only by his connection to others. He led through example—gentle but firm, present yet never imposing. He knew how to make you laugh when you needed laughter, and when the moment called for stillness, he was the first to sit with you and the last to leave.
He is survived by his daughters, Amy Capozzi and Megan Capozzi-Smith (Douglas Smith), who adored him deeply and shared a bond with their father rooted in laughter, loyalty, and a rare closeness that words can scarcely capture. He also leaves behind his three beloved grandsons—Caden Smith, Reilly Schrock (Malania Birney) and Brendon (Helen) Schrock who brought him endless joy and pride.
Life was a garden to Michael. He knew that in order for it to grow, he needed to tend it every day. Endlessly he worked in the garden by fostering connections through stories, photographs and obscure music and song. His legacy lives on as this season changes over. His flowers will continue to bloom and his roots run deep through North Hill and beyond. Through the images that he captured, the rhythm with which he lived, and the laughter that he sparked, Michael’s spirit will forever echo throughout the garden.
He now reunites with his beloved wife, Carole, and together their love story continues in the great beyond.
