Norma Jean Sulek

Norma Jean Sulek (nee Maley), known as “Aunt Norma” to many, passed away peacefully with family at her bedside on July 28, 2026, in Stow, Ohio. Norma was born April 26, 1943, in Venice Twp, Seneca County, Ohio, to the late Ralph H. and Mabel L. (Lunger) Maley. Norma lived most of her life in or near Galion, Ohio, where the family farm once stood.

Besides being preceded in death by her parents, Norma was preceded in death by her sister Evelyn Fischer. Surviving Norma are her brothers, Richard Maley of Galion, Ohio, and David Maley of Iberia, Ohio, and her sister Carol Stevens of Galion, Ohio. Norma is also survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John and Kim Sulek of Barberton, Ohio, and her two step sons, Michael Sulek of Barnesville, Ohio, and Jeff Sulek of Raleigh, North Carolina. Additionally, Norma is survived by her four grandchildren, Ethan and Abi Sulek of Barberton, Ohio, Rachel Sulek of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Adam Sulek of Barberton, Ohio, and Rebekah Sulek of Barberton, Ohio, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Norma had many interests throughout her life. She had a great fondness for dogs, including her beloved pet Angel. As a strong supporter of all first responders, Norma would often talk of firemen, police officers and medical attendees that she would meet in her time working as a nurse’s assistant. Norma had a real love for her family and a strong desire to help others. Among Norma’s other interests, she found enjoyment in a variety of types of music, with particular interest in Daniel O’Donnell.

Norma’s Christian faith was evident throughout her life. In Norma’s personal Bible, presented to her in December of 1950, her sister Evelyn had inscribed this message, which stuck with Norma, “Sin will keep you from this book [referring to the Bible]. But this book will keep you from sin.” Norma was baptized on January 28, 1956. Years later, another message that she came to cherish was found in her father’s Bible upon his passing in 1981, “I wish Jesus would come and end this tumult of this world. I wish that I would be a better Christian. I wish that we all would be ready when Jesus comes.”

Memorial services will be held at a later date, following her cremation. In lieu of flowers or other gifts, please consider spending more time with family, or volunteering at local animal shelters, local hospitals, or local nursing homes.
