It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Perry John Niskanen on March 23, 2026, at the age of 77.
Born on June 24, 1948, in Hancock, Michigan, Perry spent most of his life in Ohio, where he built a life centered around family, hard work, and simple joys. He was a proud graduate of Norton High School and attended Kent State University. Prior to beginning his career with the United States Postal Service in 1974, Perry worked for the railroad. Over the course of 35 years, he served in many roles before retiring in 2009. Never one to stay idle, he later worked part-time at Dick’s Sporting Goods.
Perry had a deep love for sports—whether watching a game or talking about one—and was an avid golfer who cherished time on the course with his brothers, sons, and son-in-law. He also loved reading and had a remarkable memory for facts and information, which he enjoyed sharing with others. He was always ready to offer advice and took genuine interest in helping those around him.
In retirement, his role at Dick’s Sporting Goods brought together two of his passions—golf and connecting with people—as he enjoyed working in the golf department and engaging with customers and coworkers alike.
More than anything, Perry loved his family. He took great pride in attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and supporting them in all they did. He will be remembered for his ever-present smile, his willingness to engage in conversation, and his ability to light up a room with his presence.
Perry is lovingly remembered by his sons, John (Sabine) Niskanen and Mark (Trinity) Niskanen; his daughter, Tona (Chris) Eyerman; and his grandchildren, Joshua and Jacob Eyerman, Chase and Mason Niskanen, and step-grandchildren Rylie and Dalin Dennis and Aaron Rhodes. He is also survived by his sister, Judy (Al) Allender; and his brothers, Lauri (Karol) Niskanen and Jim (Marilyn) Niskanen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Ruth Niskanen; his son, Paul Niskanen; and his uncle, Bill Niskanen.
His stories, advice, and love for family will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Friendship Alliance Church, 19126 Ravenna Rd, Chagrin Falls, OH 44023.
