Richard Lee Harpster Sr., 78, of Akron, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2026, surrounded by family.
A son of the late Frank E. Harpster Sr. and Grace F. (Friedman) Harpster, he was born on October 24, 1947, in Akron, Ohio.
An avid and accomplished fisherman, he found great joy in spending time on the water. Above all else, family was the center of his life. He was deeply devoted to those he loved, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him immeasurable pride and happiness. He was also a wonderful dancer and especially loved dancing the jitterbug with his wife, Esther. Known as one of the best storytellers and jokesters around, he had a gift for entertaining those around him and bringing laughter to any gathering. His stories, sense of humor, and love for his family will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of almost 61 years, Esther V. (Chamberlain) Harpster; three children, Tina Bokar, Richard L. Harpster Jr., and Melissa Ann Harpster; five grandchildren, Desirae Gruszewski, David Schenault Jr., Jacob M. Cottle, Madelyn Harpster, and Clayton Harpster; many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; and three brothers, Frank E. Harpster Jr., Robert Harpster, and Donald Harpster.
Along with his parents, Rick was preceded in death by his great-granddaughter, Delilah Rose Cottle.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no formal services and cremation has taken place. The family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to Summa Hospice for their kindness and compassionate care for Rick during the last couple of months.
Adams Mason Funeral Home was entrusted with his care.
