Robert E Figler II

Robert (Rob) Edward Figler II, age 76, of North Canton, Ohio passed away at home on April 9, 2023. Following long years of Agent Orange caused ischemic heart disease, congestive heart failure, Parkinson disease, COPD and PTSD.  He was born August 18, 1946, in Lorain, Ohio. The son of the late Verna (Wenger) Figler and Robert Edward Figler I. On April 23, 1982 he married Jaqueline L Hoffman. Together they shared 41 years of marriage.

Rob served in the 3rd Battalion 4th Marines as a radio operator and combat veteran in Vietnam. He served on the DMZ in Con Tien and Dong Ha. He was a TET survivor. After daily exposure to Agent Orange, he finished his tour of duty and spent another year at Camp Lejeune.

His decorations, medals, badges, and commendations included, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnamese Service Medal w/2* (with 2 stars), the Vietnamese Campaign Medal w/device, the Presidential Unit Citation, and the Combat Action Ribbon.

Rob had been an Eagle Scout, bookkeeper, and professional dog handler among the many jobs he would hold in his life. He was a participant in American Indian ceremonies and dances. He loved to volunteer and feeding the hungry was his most important charity. He was trained as a “buddy” to people with AIDS.

He was very talented and could create furniture and would craft the regalia used for the ceremonies and dances.

He spent 4 summers at Indian Reservations. Two at Standing Rock and two at Cheyanne River.

He worked as a sponsor for those in recovery and facilitated support groups. He rescued and rehabbed a quarter-horse, which he taught to dance.

He was a lifelong member of the Vietnam VA Chapter 717.

His proudest achievement was his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and all the children cared for in his home.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Verna Wenger Figler, his father Robert Edward Figler I and his sister, Mary Kay and his sister Anita who passed last week.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Jackie Figler; his brother John Figler; his sons Bryan Figler, Seth Figler and Jason Hoffman, his 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
