Robert J. Roman went to be with the Lord on July 28, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. Throughout his illness and many hospitalizations, he fought with determination and grace, never once complaining.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Charlotte Roman, and his daughter, Dawn Roman. He is survived by his devoted brothers, Patrick, Tom, and his twin, Richard; his children, Dan Roman (Lauren Haas) and Denise Roman; grandchildren, Simon Roman and Maya Haas, and his goddaughter, Sharon Griffiths. He also leaves behind his cherished friend, Marcia Sholl.

Robert proudly served in the United States Navy for six years, three months, and 28 days. He was honorably discharged and was awarded the Navy Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and his first Good Conduct Award for service ending on October 3, 1967. While in the Navy, he received training in disaster recovery and equipment operations at NTC.

After his military service, Robert worked as a heavy equipment operator for 30 years with the Ohio Operating Engineers Local 18, a job he loved and took great pride in. He was also a dedicated member of the Briar Hill Hunting and Fishing Club, where he enjoyed being in nature—especially fishing and riding ATVs with his brothers.

He had a deep love for animals, particularly deer, and would regularly put out salt licks and corn for the ones that visited behind his house. Robert also had a passion for electronics and technology, often surprising friends and family by adjusting settings on their phones before they even noticed. Even in his final days, he remained eager to learn and stay engaged with new technology. In his younger years, he also enjoyed working on cars.

As his illness progressed and mobility became more difficult, Robert found joy in the simple things—sitting outdoors at his assisted living facility, visiting parks, lakes, and restaurants with his daughter, and savoring his favorite foods. He especially enjoyed ribs from LongHorn Steakhouse, Chick-fil-A chicken strips, Dairy Queen ice cream, Angie’s Pizza, and his daughter, Denise's homemade Hungarian goulash and dumplings.

One of his greatest comforts in his later years was a daily 6:00 p.m. Zoom call with his brother Tom, during which they would check in and pray the Our Father together. His brothers Tom and Richie visited him weekly, and for many years, they gathered with friends every Thursday morning for breakfast and fellowship.

Robert was deeply loved by all who knew him. His warm smile could light up a room, and his presence brought joy to those around him. He will be profoundly missed.
