“We are all stories in the end, remembered by the adventures we had, the achievements we made, and the people we loved.” — Nishan Panwar

Tanya Marie Para, 61, of Akron, died from a months-long battle with cancer at Summa Hospital Akron Campus on October 3, 2025, only one day away from her 62nd birthday.

Tanya grew up in Stow, Ohio with her mother, Shirley Trukovich and siblings Terri Barclay (deceased) and brother, Rusty, before moving to Akron.

Prior to marrying her ex-husband, Mark (deceased), Tanya earned her LPN certification and worked at the Regina Health Center in Richfield. She continued working there for several years afterwards and, in more recent years, worked for InfoCision in Akron.

Tanya was a faithful, loving daughter as well as an avid pet lover! When her mother Shirley became ill, Tanya cared for her until Shirley lost her battle with leukemia in 2015. And, her dogs Bella, Tiny, and Jasper will forever be in her heart as well as her cats. As difficult as Tanya’s life was at times, she always made sure her pets were taken care of.

Tanya Marie Para is survived by her brother, Rusty (Karen) of Paris Township and cousins Denise Kilgore and Laura Cogar Lawson (Ronnie) of Akron, Gerald Kilgore of Stow, Herald Kilgore of West Virginia, Linda Coleman of Westerville, Pam Rogers of West Salem, Becky (David) Baldauf, and Deanne (Jim) Burns, all of Ashland. Tanya’s father, Howard, passed away in 1995 in Arizona.

Blessed are the caregivers. Special thanks go out to Mercedes Lanning and her family. They were instrumental in the care of Tanya, especially during the final months of her courageous cancer battle.

Cremation has taken place. Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Rubber City Rescue of Summit County in Akron (at 330.212.1670 Zelle or PayPal; Cash app at Rubbercityrescue or through email: RubberCityRescue@gmail.com).
