Akron

Toby Baker (Dale Herbert Baker II), aged 62 years, of Kenmore, Akron, Ohio, passed away after a long, courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, August, 9, 2026. He was a husband, father, grandfather, son, uncle, cousin, friend, and neighbor. Most importantly, he was one of a kind.

Toby spent the entirety of his life in his hometown, Kenmore, Ohio. A Kenmore Cardinal through and through. The son of Mary Young and Dale Baker, and youngest sibling to Kim Marcus, Sonya Presper, and Gregory Baker. He carried a charismatic sense of humor and was truly young at heart, typical of most youngest siblings.

Toby’s interests were authentically and indisputably “Toby”. He loved Tennessee Volunteers and Miami Dolphin football. He also shared a love of Tennessee Lady Vols softball, but his favorite players to watch were his granddaughters on the field. Toby loved rock music, specifically Ozzy Osbourne, Van Halen, and Sammy Hagar. He liked to tinker, create, reuse, and rebuild. He was especially proud of the wood burner stove he pieced together in his man cave. Toby could fix nearly anything with almost nothing.

Toby loved being outdoors, whether it be porch sittin’, bird watchin’, nappin’, watchin’ the storm roll in, or greeting just about anyone walking by. He loved a good bonfire, spending countless hours around it. His favorite places besides a good porch or fire, was the Mountain in Tennessee or the beach.

Toby embodied kindness, as a neighbor and friend, regularly taking care of and helping others. He gladly shoveled snow, mowed the lawn, or just visited with all of his neighbors all year long. He enjoyed their block parties. Toby’s kind heart extended to animals as well. Not only did he adopt many rescued pets, he always did his part to help lost animals find their way.

Toby’s greatest joys in life were spending time with his family. He devoted his life to his high school sweetheart and wife of 41 years, Kelly. He was incredibly proud of his children Angela and Tony, and grandchildren Kylee, Sianna, and August. His wallet was filled with pictures of them. If you ever needed to find Toby at any event, look for the Tennessee orange or find the kids. You could always find him chatting up and playing with his grandchildren. He was truly a hands-on grandpa. Toby loved a good party, but especially a family one. He rarely missed one. He was loyal to a fault to those he loved fiercely.

Toby is preceded in death by his father, Dale Baker; and nephews Matthew Marcus and Joseph Baker.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kelly Baker; children Angela (Eric) Battershell and Tony (Autumn) Baker; grandchildren Kylee and Sianna Battershell and August Baker; mother Mary Young; siblings Sonya (Tom) Presper, Kim (Vince) Marcus, and Greg Baker; nieces and nephews Katharyne (Tom), Briana (Ben), Hillary (Ben), Madeline, Lydia, Irene (Joe), Owen, Joshua, and Emily; and numerous extended family members and friends.

Toby Baker was loyal, protective, stubborn, funny, passionate, kind, and unique, but overall a good man. He will forever be loved and missed by all.
