Umesh Chandra Bhardwaj PhD

"Umesh Chandra Bhardwaj, Ph.D., 84, peacefully passed from this life on April 20, 2026. He is survived by his beloved wife, Elvira; children Vianne (Stephen Calhoun) and Grace (Pranav Patel); and grandson, Gautham. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ram Chandra and Ram Sri Bhardwaj, as well as his brothers Jagdish and Ramesh.

Umesh was born in New Delhi, India. He completed his undergraduate and master’s degrees at Aligarh Muslim University and the University of Delhi. After a brief stay in Saskatchewan, Canada, he moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where he met the love of his life, Elvira. They built their careers and family in Ohio, including his Ph.D. at Ohio University. Initially involved in social service initiatives with groups such as the Gund Foundation, he later returned to academics as a professor, ultimately at Kent State University. Together with his wife, he was a member of the American Association of Philippine Physicians in Ohio. Umesh was an enthusiastic collector of books and an aficionado of Indian cinema.

The funeral mass will take place at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 342 S Chillicothe Rd, Aurora, OH 44202 on Friday, May 1, 2026 at 11 am. Luncheon to follow."
